What is the best product to use when restoring/polishing a gelcoat finish?

doing a boat ? ive always had good results using 3m products and a good wax (zymol my favorite)

guy at work wants to polish his fiberglass trailer and i remember a thread a few years back when someone rubbed out a boat and it looked killer. I'm not doing it. I was just trying to help the guy.

Also, I'm not even sure its a gel coat finish. Just going off of what he said it was.

Cant go wrong with the 3m products i would try a fine gritt first like a swirl remover then hit it with a nice wax

Im going to be using 3m super cut and finess it on my chris craft, but I am not an expert lol

Gel coat is some tough crap to work on. It fades in a similar manner to lacquer paint, but is HARD and thus resists polishing. From my limited experience with gel-coat (a pair of Sea-doos and a 26' boat), I'd recommend something strong like 3M Rubbing Compound. That should be able to cut through some of the oxidation quite well, and then follow it up with their medium cut polish.

Of course all of this using a rotary polisher and a dust mask.
