My 2000 Buick Le Sabre is in need of a trans rebuild. Pulled "internal failure" code at the dealer. Smells and acts like the clutch packs are toasted. Any suggestions?

Several things always go bad in a 4t65e transmission around 80+k
1- 4th gear clutch hub-splines always strip-aftermarket ones have heat treated splines
2- Input sprocket & bearing/channel casting bushing & input rings-bearing is a high failure part-takes out the other parts when it fails
3- EPC-another high failure part-always change all electrical components with this trans.
4- Input clutch piston-gets wear mark in it-inner piston seal fails as a result
5- Pwm valve in valve body-causes 1870 code-bore wear out-several aftermarket fixes for this one
6- Worn Acc pistons-causes p1811-max adapt code-transgo valve body repair kit addresses this problem along with new pistons
7- Chains-people with a heavy foot will have over stretched chains
8- Excessive second clutch clearance-adds to cause 1811 code-simple fix with thicker kolene steels
9- Pump shaft & pump bearing-seen in higher mileage vehicles.
These units tend to run in the higher temp ranges (190-225+)-synthetic fluid helps lower it slightly.
Hope that helps you a little.
