Fox wont start after i put new cap and rotor in

I took my old cap and rotor off.. and put the new rotor and cap on. Firing order is correct on the distributer. When i go to start it its like trying to start and just barely running.. but wont stay running. Anyone got any Ideas?

It was idling crappy but i was gonna do fuel injectors later on. I put a new fuel filter in and my fuel pressure is solid now. I dont know why its not starting. I drove it to oreillys to get the cap and rotor and drove it home no problem.

So if it ran before you replaced the parts but runs like crap(or not at all) after, then the problem is either the parts or the installation. Not trying to sound like capt. obvious. I'm just saying.

I have bought new parts before and had to take them back because there was an issue with them. Ya might wanna try taking them back and exchanging them or get your money back and try another brand of parts.

Parts defective possible. Knocked something loose or wrong on installation more possible. Re-check your steps.

it was running before i did the cap and rotor. it wont run after i put the new one in. dont think its the parts cause just for shits and giggles i put the old cap and rotor on and it wont run. i looked around and made sure all the ignition stuff was tight. plugs, rotor etc.. hmmm

Eh, I've seen some silly stuff. A friend of mine installed a CAI and next thing you know the car won't run and the problem was his fuel pump had died somehow during the install.

So what does the engine do upon cranking the key? Have you been able to confirm spark or fuel yet? Gonna have to go down the ol' checklist until we find something...

yes there is.. The HO is different but I have the correct firing order on mine. I have new plugs ordered.. It needs them anyway. When I start it it sounds like a its trying to fire and fires a little bit but peters out once I turn the key off.

When you pulled the wires off, you might have stressed the wires enough to cause a break in contact. I'd replace the wires. Also, why do people replace cap and rotor but not the wires/plus when its all old anyway? Another 50-60 bucks cant be that bank breaking when you're already spending 40 for the cap and 30 for a rotor. It's ignition maintenance, it should all be done at the same time.

I ordered my plug wires in! i was just anxious to put stuff on. I got it to start.. It idles like shit... and its got an awful awful knocking noise at idle.. Im afraid to even start it again. lol

You seem pretty confident the wires are hooked up right (firing order) so my guess would be..... the wires arent on right. Did you label where each oner went before taking them off or do it on the fly?

I labeled em before I did. They are correct though. once that was all sorted, I took out the spark plug and had someone stand by cylinder 1. when a puff of air came. I pulled my distributer and put the rotor to 1 in my firing order. It starts but now makes a nasty clicking sound within the engine.
