Found my stolen stuff on Craig's list, what are my options?

My buddy's laptop and other items were stolen from his vehicle the other day. He found the laptop on Craig's list. What are the options to identify the thief and press charges?

He's already in contact with the police, but the fear is that the items will be gone before they can track them down...

Has anyone had this happen and what is the best way to ensure the little f#%&k is busted?

And please, no "let's organize a posse and kick his ass" advice, we've thought of that already and it ain't gonna happen...at least not yet:pissed:

Offer to pay cash and the asking price. Then ask when and where you can meet up.

Thats what I would do, Id go collect my stuff back not pay a thing, shit prob leave a lil richer with some sore as hands and the retards ID with a very well stated warning.

The problem is they know the address, the car was in his driveway. Do it other than the legal way and he sends his buddies over to terrorize the house, family, etc. This douchebag has nothing to lose, my buddy has plenty.

Better to get the cops involved.

That's what I mean. Make it so it's "sold", but the cops will be nearby when the deal happens. That way they can be the ones to meet up with him.

Shit good luck getting the cops to do that it all sounds good and in a real world that's what the cops are for but it never seems to work like that. Does he have proof they are his?

You need to hurry and get this done before the items are sold. Maybe even call 911 while you're there.

by all means go buy the stuff. do whatever you have to do to get to him as fast as possible. have a friend sit in the car on the phone with police as you go out and make the deal. stall and bullshit with the guy as much as possible while making the sale, try to haggle price etc. but do it in person. that way hes in your presence with the items. if you have to actually buy them, do it and wait for the cops to show up. try to get receipts too. "i (thiefs name) sold (your name) a laptop for $xxx blah blah blah blah" just for extra proof.

Take the cops with you to look at your stuff!!!!!! All you need to do is find out what city you are going to meet him in and call that citys police dep. Tell them what is going on and that you would like them to come with you just incase it is yours. If you have any pics of your stuff take them with you or anything you can showing that that is YOUR stuff. Cops love when you are able to do there job for them and all that have to do is be the middle man. This is what i did when dudek found the mustang on cl and it worked out for us...lol if you want pm me your number i would be more than happy to help you guys out any way i can.

Looks like you have all the very good advice you need…

Call & set up purchase deal.

Arrive with back up & the local police right behind you (don’t forget your break-in report).

Remain cool, you might just get your stuff back & “take a bite out of crime”!

This. MAKE THEM COME WITH YOU. If you call them after you've already ID'd your stuff, the crook could jet on you before the cops come there. It might be a 10 minute response time...10 minutes is a loooooooooong time to stall someone. If the cops tell you "just call us if its your stuff", I would say.."Ok...I'll call you after I beat the shit out of him and put him in the hospital."

The westland police said this to me a few weeks ago when I went with my buddy to see if a stolen iPod was his. Lucky for the guy, it wasn't stolen. I actually accused him before I saw the vin number and almost broke his jaw when he went to grab it out of my hands...Good thing I didn't, or I'd probably be in jail. LOL.

iPod's have vehicle identification number numbers!?!??!! I should run the car fax on mine then! :jest:

Got the address and set up a meeting for the buy. I need a Warren cop, is anyone here one or know one that can help out? We have called the local department, but having someone who has a vested interest to help a fellow MM brother out would be sweet...

Think about this, Your buddy is one of VERY few people that has been able to locate his stolen items. Dont lose the chance to right someone elses wrongs, not saying vigilante justice but def dont sit on your hands if police arent willing to help.
