I'm thinking of forging my 350 in my 72 chevelle to handle spray.
About a 150 shot or so, enough to run with these newer cars and the big blocks. How much am i looking at and what else would i have to do to spray and stay reliable? I know I'm being vague but I can answer any of the questions based off of the guy I bought it from recently. Looking to learn a lot as well.

original 72 motor? If so dump the factory heads, 4 bolt the bottom end ,cam, and get a rear gear odds are its a open with a low ratio

Well he just bought the car and doesn't know a whole lot about it but this is what I know. Its not an original 72 block, its an unknown 350 block that was bored .30 over (cleaned up), the guy said it had a cam, ported heads, it has an edelbrock intake and Holley carb, headers with full 3" exhaust, trans is a "built" TH350 with a 3500 stall he gave me the shop name but my buddy may know, 12 bolt rear end with either 4:10s or 4:56 gears (runs real high rpms but the guy wasn't exactly sure what ratio). Car spins like a mother but he just got some DRs off srtracer so those should hook much better.

He ran my buddys close to stock LS1 and it got walked hard so he was thinking over winter he'd get it ready for juice. How much exactly is it gonna cost to do this all and are there any local shops that are great with carb engines?

Yeah I guess he'll have to call the guy back and see if he could get more specific but I'm almost certain the motor isn't forged in any way, but it still leaves me wondering.

most aftermarket replacment pistons for a sbc are hypeutetic.. i wouldnt think someone would put cast pistons back in a motor being rebuild.. But you never know.. pull a head of and take a look

if you are gonna spray it i would HIGHLY suggest to get the full monty of MSD ignition..this is what i have
digital-6 plus ignition box,pro-billet distributor(to be used ONLY with MSD 6,7, or 8 series ignition boxs), and MSD blaster2 coil. reason is , is when you spray you have to retard the timing...and that box does it automatically, when you "arm" the system.
and i had cast pistons and sprayed the hell out of it with a 150hp shot, and a couple of times with a 180hp shot...when i tore that motor down to sell the short block i could see that the top of the pistons were a little dis-colored from heat...i now have forged...everything!!
