Hello All...

In the market for an F150 in the near future...Trying to decide which engine is the better route. The Eco-Boost or the 5.0 ??

I drive 110 miles a day to work, round trip...95% highway.

Definitely want a 4 X 4...As I live in farm country.

Just wondering if anyone here has one or the other, your likes, dislikes, mpg, etc.

Thanks !!!

I've had both and I'd take the Eco overall. The Eco was great, although wasn't getting ford's advertised mileage, but still better than the 5.0L.

When I had my trailer and car in tow I got same mileage as the 5.0 (maybe a bit worse) but throttle response was good. Plus the turbo's are loud and sound goooood.

Short answer..... Ecoboost for usability and highway miles (keep it at/under 70) and 5.0 if you plan to mod it. The 5.0 V8 is pound for pound one marvelous engine. Only my opinion and observations.

ive had alot of seat time in both and like the 5.0 better.. from my experience on the hwy i got 21mpg with the 5.0 and a best of 18 in the eco. the turbos do sound great on the eco but the 5.0 also has a great tone, both choices are good but if i bought a new f150 tomorrow it would be a 5.0 just my .02

I have an ecoboost and my dad has a 5.0. We get almost identical mileage but he has 3.55's and I have 3.73's. I think mine actually does pull a trailer better than his but that's just my opinion, he would disagree. lol

When I start mine it puffs a little bit of smoke sometimes, but the oil never moves on the dipstick. Like everything on the web take it with a grain of salt.

ya your best bet is really to go drive both and see what u like they are both wayyyy better than the 5.4

Amen! Compared to the 4.6 "Heritage" motor and 5.4 the Ecoboost and/or the 5.0 are light years away. Can't loose. Just pick your favorite color.

I've seen roughly 3,000 EcoBoost trucks start and every one of them puffed. Not sure what it is but it doesn't seem to be effecting anything else.

I've got a 2011 Ecoboost Supercrew 4x4 and I'm very happy. I'm at 13k miles and I've hand calculated the fuel economy for every tank of fuel since new. In 100% in town driving it will get 14.5-15.5mpg. In 100% highway driving I've seen between 17-20.5mpg depending on speed and conditions. The 'norm' seems to be 18.5mpg in my case. Power-wise it's excellent...roll on acceleration is great and overall it has exceeded my expectations.
I have friends with 5.0s that are very happy as well with nearly identical fuel economy. Either way you can't go wrong...but I like the torquey feel of the EB.
As earlier stated...drive them both, then decide.

I've had an Eco-boost since they came out. The truck is a 4x4 Supercrew that I use for my DD as well as towing. The low RPM TQ makes the Eco better to tow with. The 5.0 is a great engine also, it has more rebate and is $750 less out of the gate. Just remember you're going to be driving a 5k plus truck so you're not going to get car MPG.

Whatever you do just make sure to go see Matt Stanford @ Varsity Ford. ;)

I've driven both at the MPG and personally prefer the ecoboost. Towing wise both seem to perform equally, but the ecoboost just seems to have more usable power.

I drove both and ended up buying a 2012 fx4 with the 5.0. Has good power fuel mileage and sounds good when u get on it.
