Ford coil pack question

I'm sure there is a reason for this, but on my Ford 4.6 modular motor they have two coilpacks with 4 spark plugs for each pack. Why don't they configure the coilpacks so each pack works with the plugs on that side of the motor? You could then have 4 different lengths of plug wires instead of 8, and it would be cheaper & simpler.

Yeap, you must have the 96-98 (thats when mustang had this set up) style......99 to current they do use coil on plug.

you could move the coils closer together and cut down on the length variation. I could also make you a really really simple little device that would allow you to run ls1 coils mounted whever you plase but the firing order must be adhered to when it comes to the wiring.

Thanks for the offer on the LS 1 coils, I have a pair of MSDs that I'll stick with.
I know all the big companies look at cutting corners where they can and this seemed to be a simple enough idea that should have been implemented before the car went into production.
