I was looking to set up my old 55 gallon fishtank but recently found out that my dad threw out the home made stand. Well, I then decided that I would just build a new stand and fix some stuff on the old one. Out of the blue my uncle calls me and wants to know if I would rather buy his 125 gallon tank off of him for $300. Basically I give him 300 bucks and it comes with everything i need to run it (tank, stand, lights, filtration system, ect.) My problem is this I live in an apt on the second floor. When I mentioned this to him he was sort've hesistant about the deal and told me to check with my land lord before putting it in. You guys think this mother of a tank would fall right through the floor? I'm not sure about the ratio for lbs to gallon. Let me know what you guys think cause it's a great deal and I really dont wanna pass it up. :dontknow:

If your apartment can hold one of your dates then this will be about as stressful on your floor as a feather floating on water.

j/k

On the realistic side I don't think the floor would be a problem especially if its pushed against a wall

lol...what's funny is that I thought about those 800lb bed ridden people and couldn't see how the tank could be much worse. I planned on putting it on the outside perimeter wall closest to the deck. Anyone else see a huge problem with it, 1000lbs is a lot and I wouldn't wanna have the people below me have a 125 gallon fish tank fall through their ceiling as their watching some t.v.

I heard that those have a bony front structure and can crack the glass open? Might have been a stupid salesman who told me that though.

I'd like to put 4 pirahnas in it or a couple wolf fish. I"m a predatory fish kinda guy.

I would look at how much are the stand sits on the floor. If it is 4 little pads than I might want to enlarge that area. but if it is rails that sit on the floor than I see no problems. spreading the weight out is better.

i know when i had a 55 gallon tank in my room of the house, which is a second floor wood construction i used a sheet of plywood and some 2x4s to spread the load.

The stand is fully enclosed and rectangular in shape. So I guess that's a little more reasuring about the situation. The exact dimensions of the tank are 4 feet long by 3 feet high by 2 feet deep.

That is fine about the tank size, but the stand is the important part here. You want to distribute that 1,000 lbs over as much area as you can. So if the stand contacts the floor around the perimeter of the stand, that is better than 4 foot pads.

The weight won't be a problem.

Remember, it is easier to beg for forgiveness, then ask for permission.

i'd go for it as long as your putting it against a exterior wall, also want it to be as close to another wall as possible as that will be the sturdiest place. and if its a iron stand i'd definetly put it on some wood to better displace the weight.

i would definately check cuz u gotta think i have about 70 pounds of rock in my 75 gallon tank and that is kinda a thin layer of rock. i think your gunna go right through the floor
