has anyone attached a fiberglass cowl..(harwood) to a stock metal hood?? ive seen it done before where it looks really good but im unsure how to attach the fiberglass to the metal. do you use rivits or just glass it all together?

i believe rivets then the fiberglass material. then build it out so it looks smooth. not 100% sure on that though.

I have seen a lot of people try this using rivets, fiberglass and body filer(bondo) and it always cracks. The only way to do this correctly is to use 3M panel bonding adhesive and clamp about every 3”. I use clecos, but if you dont care about look under the hood you can use rivets. Before bonding sand both surfaces with 36 grit and CLEAN.
The only problem with this is 3M bonding adhesive is around $50 a tube and the application gun is ~ $30. So if your only doing this once, it may be cheaper to just buy a glass hood.

thanks for the info!!! +1 to you sir!

its 3M 8115 is what you need. i have the gun. evercoat also makes something real close to the 8115 that you can get in a can and use something like a putty knife. ive yet to try it though. goto your local painters supply store and explane to them what your doing and they will help you out. or i can if you bring it to me.

I used rivets( glassed over) on a stock steel hood on mine 6 years ago and made the cowl, bumpers to and had no issues or cracks, yes the underside dont look that great but w/ a car that you cant find parts for it worked .....
the buckle in the front bumper is from me (i have a very bad temper)
these pics were taking last year (08)... did all the glass in 02
