got an explorer(99 i think) that the battery is dead on. i need to charge the battery up but cant unlock any of the doors with the 3 keys that i have. its my mother in laws extra vehicle that was stored in my driveway. not sure why the ignition key doesnt work on any of the doors, we always used the remote. any way to open the hood or give juice to the vehicle so the remote works? ive not been under the truck so im not sure if i can reach the leads to the battery from underneath. ive heard of ppl putting the jumper on the starter wires? or even the tail lights or something? :help:

jumper cables/batt. charger to the starter cable, pos. to starter cable, neg to frame/eng.

ok thats what i thought but i didnt want to screw anything up on a vehicle thats not mine.

and lubricate those door lock cylinders

really? i just find it hard to believe that both front doors and the tailgate would all 3 fail due to needing lubrication, is it a common problem with these explorers?

so is there no way to open the hood? im guessing not since im sure they design the cable system to make it impossible to open from the outside.

The problem with using WD or PB is it will hold dirt in and eventually make the lock pins stick to where just about any key will open it. You really should use powdered carbon for locks as it won't gum up.

I would use it till you get them working properly, spray a quick shot of brake clean in them to remove the oil, then the next day use the dry lube

with everyone using keyless entry, no one ever uses their keys to unlock the door, so they sieze up

you guys were right on the money!! sprayed the wd40 into each lock cylinder, waited a while and was able to get the pass. lock to move a little and then eventually unlock! then i popped the hood, jumped it and it started and drove fine. brakes were like seized though lol. thanks!!!!!!
