FedEx: Dumb Dumb Dumb (Rant)

Well, I tried to do the impossible today: ship a package via FedEx.

It couldn't have been easier. I already had a shipping pre-paid and an email confirmation.

All the people at the FedEx facility had to do was scan the UPS on my confirmation email, print a label, and stick it on an envelope.

This sounds easy enough, right? Wrong! The dear people at the FedEx/Kinkos at Northwestern in Southfield couldn't even manage to log into their computers.

Both employees were just standing there, seemingly waiting for divine intervention.

I eventually gave up and left. Back to the drawing board. I try to find a location of another nearby FedEx. Enter FedEx.com (on my iPhone). And guess what? The local search feature is down.

Unwilling to face defeat I install the FedEx iPhone application via the AppStore. No dice. The app is as useless as the staff at the store.

Now I'm mad. I use the Google search feature within the iPhone Navigon GPS app. Score! There is another FedEx a few miles away.

I waited ten minutes in line (I was the only person in line). The woman at the counter scans the barcode on my confirmation email. Things are starting to look up.

My relief was premature. They couldn't print the shipping label. This is a printing and shipping company, I would like to point out.

She tried and tried and tried again. No luck printing. Not one to stand idly by waiting for divine intervention like the staff at the first store she called Tech Support. Support had her repeat the process which delivered the same result.

Finally employee number two, who had been monitoring this debacle from a distance (I think he was secretly enjoying my obvious annoyance) chimed in with a suggestion to try a different computer.

After that failed to help I punted: I told them I think their service is a f*ing joke and left.

Is it me, or should a shipping/printing company be able to print an address label?

/end rant/

I guess its a crapshoot with the parcel companies. Fedex has always been good to me. UPS on the other hand...I swear the guys loading the trucks must have the package soccer championship everytime I have something coming my way.

FedEx store employees are usually terrible. I use UPS 99% of the time. I still get shit screwed up, but I ship hundreds of items a year so shit happens.

LOST/DAMAGED PACKAGES in the last year to my address:

USPS: 3 (1 damaged, 1 lost, and one received with no contents (package ripped open).
UPS: 1 (iPhone 4S, never recovered)
FEDEX:0
DHL: 0

Fedex is on my favorites list since they never lost a package and they deliver saturdays.

FedEx will be getting a call from me tomorrow! They did the old door bell and dash, as i went to my front door I noticed the driver in his delivery TRUCK pull OFF of my driveway!
Sure enough he snapped 2 of my driveway slabs.:banghead:

Ugh...I hate that. It's ridiculous. Every time someone ships something to me by FedEx it ends up in me having to drive 2 hours to go pick it up at their central station. They always drop by around 2 (when I'm at work) and leave a tag. I've called them numerous times saying I will NEVER be home at that time, so they can either just leave it there or deliver it later in the day or on the weekend...doesn't help. Or, if on the odd chance that I AM home when they are there, they show up and leave by the time I get to the door. I swear they don't even wait 5 seconds for someone to come to the door...just ring the door bell and leave. I refuse to do any business with them if I can help it.

He parked his truck on my driveway and broke the cement!

good luck proving that fact. And if its a ground truck they own there own vehicles and dont have the same rules as express drivers.

Wow.. you guys make me feel lucky. While I've had plenty of less-than-stellar experiences, they don't compare to what I've read thus far.

I ship hundred of packages a month with fedex with no issue. The kinkos you are talking about are a bunch of morons. I have been in there a few times. You should have printed the label at home and just use kinkos as a collection site.

Yeah you do have the work "Kinkos" in there. That label is a catalyst of weirdness and ineptitude. This sounds like a good argument to keep the USPS around?

I worked at the UPS in the airport unloading planes, The people that unloaded the trucks there would throw everything onto the conveyer no matter if it was fragile or not. Shit they would stack boxes and stand on them to reach other boxes.

yep.. i have had a delivery driver try to deliver stuff on a saturday. i was watching the online tracking every 20 minutes to a half hour b/c i realy needed the parts for my car. he marked it as attempted delivery as no one was home.. when i was home outside doing something in my driveway.. i called fed ex as soon as i saw it and told them they better clal that driver and tell him he better deliver that package and not pull some bullshit again.. he showed up an hour later and never said one word..

I watched FED EX deliver to my neighbor and then throw some of his trash out underneath his truck before he pulled out. It was on purpose. I called their office.

Usually the driver will leave it at doorstep (excluding apartments) if rcpt leaves a signed note with date, as long as the shipper does not request a direct signature. You guys should not be bitching at FedEx, rather bitch at the shippers. It is fedex policy to release packages whenever they can, as long as the shipper doesn't pay the extra money for a sig.....
