Fbody cage help

On an LT1/LS1 Fbody when is a cage needed? I'm really bored and was planning out an LT1 car build I might start in the spring. Acording to Desktop Dyno I'll be putting 489/478 and I'd like to run a 100 shot. When you reach a certain time in the 1/4 and its required do you put it or do you get to the point where you need one from power first? How fast is 500/475 really going to put me with and without nitrous? Dumb question probably but I've seen people with like a CAI and exhaust on an LT1 car with a cage and I've been to Ubly and seen a car run a 10.50 at the track with no cage. Stuck one tire and the other came about 18in off the ground.

Thanks
Tom

6 point needed for 11.49 to 10.00 in a non-vert with stock floorpan and firewall.

10 point needed at 9.99 to 8.50 in a non-vert with stock floorpan and firewall.

How fast is 500hp/475tq with a 100shot gonna put me? How fast without the 100shot? I don't plan on putting it in this winter or anything. I'm just seeing about how much a build would run. 6pt, steel, low door bar cage........$850 installed?

your price on a six point mild steel is right on track, thats what i charge to do them, i would suggest an 8pt, it will tie into your sub frame connectors. my .02.

I planned on having sfc's but how do you tie it in? Just wondering, because there is no way in hell I'm planning on doing my own cage

most 408ci afr headed cars don't even make 500

It's a 408 STS car. This isnt' something I build overnight. It would take me a few years. I'm just trying to think of what I have to expect over the longrun
