f250 7.3l diesel wont start

DarkoStoj

A mysterious figure named Darko
just got one in and not sure whats wrong with it.

It wouldnt start and I spayed starting fluid and got it running for a sec then died.

I tried a new injector driver...no difference

I just noticed the "water in fuel" light on in the dash

Don't know anything about this truck and have never worked on them before

any ideas on where to start? any easy way to drain the fuel on this?

there should be a water drain. depending on year some are on the frame under the drivers seat, some on the block . turn the yellow knob to drain the separator

yep already drained the fuel filter housing with the little yellow lever.

Is it low on fuel and cold outside? Mine had issues like that.
Also have you plugged it in and let the heater warm everything up? I don't think its that cold out yet but you never know.

Well if you got fuel out of the bowl when you opened the drain valve I would imagine your fuel pump is working correctly.Pull the filter cover off and check to see if the fuel filter is really dirty, that may need replacement but shouldnt necessarily cause a no start condition. Worst case its the HPOP (high pressure oil pump) Did you pull any codes?

Change the cam/crank sensor thing in the botton front of the engine? Its a little optical sensor that can just stop working whenever it pleases.. We carried an extra in the glovebox when we had a fleet of 7.3 fords. Just my 2 pennies!

Forgot about those! Very common problem, and dealer should have a plethora of them in stock.
