Its a 97 and it started of have a hard time starting in park to not at all in park now I can only get it into reverse and drive and somewhere between that I can get it started. shifter goes al the way up and down and feels somewhat looose but those are the only gears it can find . no first second or park. I need to know if it is in the shifter or maybe the cable. Any one that has had this problem it would be great. to tell me how to fix it.

I'd have someone sit inside and run it through the gears while your underneath watching the shift cable to determine where your problem is

There is a short lever under the dash, at the base of the steering column that the shifter cable connects to. It's held onto the shifter stalk shaft by 2 torx head bolts which seem to come loose pretty often, causing very sloppy shifting. Check them first!
