Exhaust Work

Im looking to get a new exhaust setup on my truck.

I would like for better performance out of it because i currently have 2 1/4 inch piping to cherry bomb glasspax to tail pipes. It is also true duals.

Im looking to get and x pipe, 2 1/2 inch piping to 1 chamber flowmaster super 40s dumped before rear axle .

Would i get a decent power gain/ better sound out of it?

You will probably gain very little out of it. Hard to say. I dont think it would hurt at all though. I think that it would more then likely sound better though. My $0.02

Yeah, should give you a more mellow note with the x-pipe. Unless you are banging on 375+ HP, upgrading the pipes to 2.5" is not going to make a noticeable difference.

I wont gain a noticeable difference even though it will be dumped instead of the tailpipe setup?

Not unless you are over 400 HP..
The dual tailpipes are not a big restriction for flow levels that make that kind of power. Also, if you dump in front of the axle, the exhaust may be more boomy since it's going to resonate under the bed. This might negate any sound quality/level improvement you were looking for from going to an x pipe and Flows..

A good rule of thumb is you need dual 2.5" pipes for low flow restriction at the 400HP level.

If you are only putting out 260 HP (Vortec 5.7L power levels), the duals are not really helping you make any more significant power.

If you are making 400-450 HP, then dumping in front of the axle might be worth 2-4 HP at peak flow. You won't feel it or even be able to tell the difference at the track..
The only time it will show more is if you are running a very long exhaust duration ([email protected]"). A cam like that basically needs open headers to max out the power, and the slight reduction in backpressure from the shorter system would show may 5-7 HP.. nothing you will really be able to measure either.

This has been my experience measuring this sort of stuff for the OEM's, despite what all the aftermarket claims are.

i would just go with a single 3" pipe setup with a decent ypipe. and if you want the looks of dual you could always get a single in dual out muffler.

But i have a V8, I dont think a single exhaust would work well with a V8 power wise.

not true. many people run single pipe setups with very large hp numbers. i ran a single 3" on my 375RWHP camaro ss. with a 150shot it was easily over 500rwhp but i never dynoed it with nitrous.

Oh, i like the duals look because if i dont have the duals,it will just look like a normal ranger.

thats why i suggested the dual outlet muffler. just letting you know an alternative, if you really want true duals go right ahead.

If somebody hears your Ranger, they will not have any doubt.. a phukin Hyundai comes with dual tips these days.

You have a V8 in your ranger... right? Cause if all you have is a V6.. I wouldn't bother with even 2.25" pipes.

And if you put a V8 in your Ranger.. did you do it to be flashy? If you wanted Flashy, wouldn't you have gotten a 'Stang like everybody else?

I'm a big fan of subtle... maybe not stealth.. but subtle..

I just like the duals look on it, im just looking for the best flow for hp and sound, but if a single setup works better then ill use it.

What will work better? single 3" or the dual xpipe 2.5?

What kind of power are you making.. what motor?

Would 2.5" make a noise/ power difference?

again... no noticeable power improvement. Stop asking the same Q..
Noise depends on the mufflers, though oversized diameter pipes for a setup that does not need them may add some unwanted noise.

Drone on Flows or anyother system is pretty variable. I had 2.5" flows on my 302 in my truck, no boom at 70 mph in OD. But the 2.5" flows in my Impala SS would boom bad at 50-55 mph, 1500 RPM or so.

If you get boom, adding tailpipe resonators may help.
