Exhaust question

I ran my car at the track with a 2 1/2 inch x-pipe and 1 chamber flows dumped. When I ran open headers I picked up 2 tenths. My engine is only 9:1 compression. I have always ran better with an exhaust on a low compression engine in the past but I was shocked to pick up two tenths without it this time. I just installed bullets off the collectors just to see if there is any change there also. I really thought it would need the back pressure but I guess it didn't. Any thoughts? Any guess how it might run with the bullets off the collectors?

Should run the same as open, you won't loose in ET but you may see a very small change in MPH, if any?
