Engine break-in

I have a 302 that i plan on firing for the first time on the next warm day. I was just curious what break-in methods everyone uses. Normally i take it easy for a little bit but recently i read that its better to beat on it right away to seat the rings as soon as possible. I wont be able to really drive it for a few months though. Its a street/strip car if that matters. Any input is appreciated, Thanks, Jake

Roller of flat tappet cam?

I'll assume roller. I fire it up, set timing, let it get to temp for about 15 minutes checking for leaks or anything suspicious. Shut it off, check all fluids, and leaks or any other issues. Clean up, get in, drive As long as first few minutes of drive feel ok, i beat on it a little. Put about 100 miles on it, change oil and return to normal punishment as i see appropriate.
