Drink garnishes

Anyone know if there is a general rule as to what garnish goes into a mixed drink?

when I'm feelin girly I'll have a sip of OJ after my absolut. The sugar from that kind of kills my buzz though. Thats no good.

Thanks guys! I was hoping that it would be something simple like put a cherry in cola colored drinks, olive in clear, etc. - but nope.

Nah... most cocktails that require a garnish require a specific garnish.

Bloody Mary - Olives, Lime, Lemon, Celery
Manhattans- Cherries or a Lemon twist (Depends whether it is perfect or dry)
Martini- olives
Cosmo- Lemon twist
Stawberry Daqurie- lime and whipped cream
Pina Colada- lime and whipped
Almost any Rum and Pop- lime
Margarita- Lime and salted rim

Thats all I know off the top of my head. :icon_drin
