Dog attack

Friday, my brother went to the Humane society in Macomb to get a dog. They were looking for a good dog that was good with other animals and that got along with kids. They ended up getting a black lab/german shepard mix. That night the dog slept in the bed and was great with the kids and other dog. The next day (sat) they were all in the back yard, and his 7 year-old-daughter was playing with their new "3" year-old-dog, and out the blue the dog jumped on her and bit her on her face. She has a hole in her forehead (along her hair line) where you could see her skull, about 3 inches long and about a 1 1/2 wide. On her cheak there are several scratches/puncture wounds and huge gash about 3 in long and 1 in wide. My brother called me, and i flew up to the hospital. When i got into the room, it was probably the worst dog bite i have seen.

I had to take the damn dog to the police station. I wanted to shoot the dog.

I feel so bad for my neice, i hope that the humane society pays better attention with the animals that they adopt out. because now my neice has to suffer with these scars for life. Someone wasnt doing their job, while seeing what this dog was about. I def could of been a lot worse, it could of been her eye or could of been her life. If my brother wasn't standing 5 ft away, who knows what could of happened.

Here are a few pictures...tell me what you think should happend

holy shit that's horrible!! She will be fine I'm sure but wow what a bad deal.

To me, that's a stray dog... all I have to say.

That's horrible. No telling what the history was with that dog.. The Humane Society, no doubt, disclosed what they knew at the time as far as the dogs temperament.

the funny thing is, they were looking at a dog that wasnt good with kids and then they said that this dog was the one for them if they were looking for a dog that was good with kids, and look what happened.

They said that the dog wasnt a stray, they said that the people that had the dog were moving and they couldnt keep the dog.he got it from the macomb humman society he thought it was the best place to go

Ummmm yeah........the dog would have been dead if it were me. Sorry to hear man. Hope she gets well soon.

when it happend he rushed her to the hospital, after i left the hospital i wanted to but there were my kids and his other girl i counldent do that in front of them as much as i wanted to

I'm so very, very sorry to hear (& see) this.
I hope and pray that sweet little girl will
heal well.

Very shitty. I hope your neice makes it out ok, I know nowadays they can do alot with scars. My little bro got attacked my a dog when we were fishing at a friends pond one day, I'm a huge dog lover but I could have drowned this stupid dog! He wasnt much older than her at the time. Fucked up thing is, we went back fishing there sometime after, and the same dog attacked him again. Long story short, I didnt take him back there anymore, and the people got rid of the POS dog.

Best wishes!

I can understand that.

after i left the hospital i wanted to go there and just shoot the dog, but i didnt the dog was in the back yard where it was when this happend, the police told us to take it the the station so thats what i did

I would have snapped the dogs neck on the spot... I hope that poor girl recovers quickly and has no permanent scars! I'd bet she develops a fear of dogs too... poor thing.

that's really sad. I hope the girl isn't afraid of dogs for life now.

she heard a dog bark and got scared it was the dog next door,

it will take some time but im sure, just feel bad for ever on in this hole thing her mom and dad and all here family

Wow... what a terrible thing all around. You try to do the right thing, get the kids a dog, get it from the pound, etc, etc...

I am a huge dog lover and I always felt like Shepards were very unstable. They always have that "bite first" mentality, with that quick snapping bite. The only time I've ever been bitten by a dog it was a German Shepard and I just held me hand out and waited for it to snif me and it just bit me.

She looks like one heck of a tough little kid... just sitting there waiting with her face all bloodied up.

Tell ya what... when she's ready and you guys want to get her around dogs again, let me know. We have a boxer that is the absolute sweetest dog around little kids. She lets kids lay on her, pull her ears, run around with her, whatever... she's perfect with little kids. It's going to take time, but if she's as tough as she looks, she'll get over it. :)

PS. Once the wound has begun to heal... use vitamin C and make sure to put sunblock on her scar for the first year. My sister had a wicked burn along her cheek from a sizzling hot fajita plate when she was a food server. Because she was aggressive in treating the scar, 10 years later it's almost invisible.
