does a duplicate title void the original title in MI?

I'm almost positive I remember the duplicate paperwork saying something like "Issuance of a duplicate title cancels the original title".
If not, it would be way too easy to scam some one buy getting a duplicate title. Selling the vehicle with the duplicate title and then showing up later with the original and taking the car back because "the original is the one that matters".
