differance in heads?

Usually just the srpings and the installed hieght for the spring. As far as i know thats about it.

The spring pocket on a head setup for a hydraulic cam will likely be a smaller diameter, usually something less than 1.550". Also, as already mentioned the springs themselves. Hydraulic springs are usually in the 130# seat pressure area, and solid stuff is 210+# of seat pressure. They are definately different. Solid rollers have more aggressive profiles requiring hgiher spring pressure to keep the lifter on the lobe of the cam.

Most aftermarket heads already have 1.550 pockets. They genrally use shim cups or shims to take up the clearance.
