Did WRIF change up their format a bit or something?

They've been playing a lot of stuff the last few days that I'd normally associate with 89X from the 90s and early 00s. Some songs I don't think I've ever heard on the station. Has anybody else noticed this?

I haven't listened to them much lately, but I think all the Detroit stations are shuffling a bit right now. 89X has definitely veered into a harder rock mode. 106.7 has taken over modern alternative, but is way more poppy than 89X ever was. It seems that none of the radio stations are trying to overlap anymore.

It's been weak for "rock" ever since they dropped the "Midnight Metal" program. LOL

The only "rock" that is worth listening to on WRIF nowadays is the nationally syndicated "hard drive radio" show at 5am Sat mornings (it repeats at 9pm Sun evenings IIRC)...

Was that with "Screaming Scott Randall"? I was in radio broadcasting school with him.

I think its safe to say all OTA radio sucks. Even some Sirius too. Not that many listen to it here, but Hip-Hop Nation on SXM literally plays the same songs over and over, just like OTA radio. Shade 45 has people talking on it half the time or some obscure rap playing. I canceled my SXM subscription a few months ago and just use Spotify now.

radio stays off unless I'm looking for current road stats that are not being picked up on the smart device. Only boring when the vehicle isn't spooling or in a vehicle without any sorta of grunt. lol

I think so, seem to remember him working that segment for quite a few years.

I wonder where he went. Like most radio dudes, he
moved around a lot after graduation and then finally
came back to the Detroit area to WRIF for his "dream
job".
