coolant for VW, opinions needed

Since its a decent temp out today i was going to flush my cooling system in the 95 GTI. VW claims to require their own coolant (which for this year was G11/blue, what it currently has) and if i was to switch they just came out with a recommendation of switching to G12/pink with a full flush.

anyway, can i just use a phosphate free coolant (NOT dex-cool) from the parts store? of course all the vw people say to ONLY use the vw stuff but we all know what comes from vwvortex.....

thanks

i'd flush it and use whatever is easiest to get(the yellow universal stuff seems pretty good, I beleive it meets the GO5 specs), since every engine out there has the same materials(iron, steel, aluminum, plastric, rubber), I see no adverse effects from doing this

Hello,

Yes, you can switch to G12 or G12++ with a complete flush. I would recommend using this coolant as it has great additives.

If you need anything else let me know. I may have a gallon or 2 of the G12, I would have to look. Probably not worth the ride for you though.
