concerned about my dog

I removed my teeth on purpose....if you catch my d
Opal is just under 3 years old. She's a shelter dog who suffers from extreme anxiety and fear of people. Especially men. If I had to guess, she was beat. It takes her a good month of consistent contact around someone to get to the point that her anal glands don't spray and she cowers in fear when someone new is around. With women, it's a little less. So here's the situation.

1. She's coonhound and lab mix. Tons of energy. For the past 2.5 years I've fed her 2 cups of food each day. Normally she just eats it when she likes to. Sometimes all in one sitting, sometimes I'll go to feed her the next day and half of it will still be there. About a month ago, this suddenly stopped. She gobbles her food down and half the time she acts like she's not ate in a month, staring at her food bowl or nudging it with her nose.

2. I started to notice that she was a little thinner about 2 weeks ago. Nothing staggering, just that around her hips she was toning down (she wasn't overweight at all before). Her stool has been fine. No diahrea or noticeable worms in it. About a week ago, I doubled her food intake. I have an automatic feeder, so instead of getting 2 cups at 6 pm, she gets 1 cup at 6 am, 1 and noon, and 2 at 6pm. Now I know in a week I won't see a change in her size upward, but today I looked at her and it looks like she's lost even more weight. I can't get a solid reading on our bathroom scale, so I can't say for sure what she even weighs.

Before I take her into the vet and pay an exhorbitant vet fee etc... Is there anything else I should look at/for or do?

If it matters, she takes a Sentinel pill every month so that *should* control any worms. Her energy level has not gone down (or up for that matter), she's still all puppy. Her mood is the same as always too. She doesn't seem depressed. Her drinking habbits are the same, so it's not a lack of water.

Old video of her about a year ago playing at my parents house.

So by my best guess, (weighed myself, then held her and weighed us) she's 2 pounds under what she was in january (55 in Jan, 53 now) when she went to the vet. I'll take her to the vet, but I have this strange feeling that she's fine and i'm just reading into things.

better to be safe than sorry. Our little shih-tzu was not eating like she normally would and she started loosing weight. My wife kept wanting to take her to the vet but i insisted she was fine. Well one sunday afternoon she still had not eaten on drank anything since late thursday. She was very week and sad, so we rushed her to an emergency vet clinic to find out she had a serious infection in her uterus that could easily poison her whole body and kill her, that vet visit was over $500 for just the ultra sound and blood work, the surgery was going to be over $1700 to completely remove her uterus. Fortunately we had a family friend who owed a favor that performed the surgery the next morning for $600. Hindsight I wish I would have taken her in 2 weeks prior when she first started acting differently. Not saying this is your case, but dont put off getting the dog checked.

Thanks. My wife says she looks fine. I'll take her in tomorrow.

I had a similar issue with my old dog and after a mound of vet bills I found out that the dog food co. changed the recipe in his food and it was making him sick so he would barely eat it, He would eat a pebble here and there so maybe its worth trying a different food if you haven't
