Collecting stuff for the troops?

We just did collection for the troops at work here... we put together about 10 boxes of food, DVDs, magazines, bathroom supplies, etc, etc. All little things that most of us take for granted. Here's the response we got:

Hello Sir,

Thank you very much for sending all the food candy and everything. It was amazing and absolutely generous on your end. I have personally been here in AFG since January, and this was the best care package I have ever had a chance to get things out of. You truly don't understand how happy we all were when we saw packages and when we saw everything in it. I will never forget this great week, my birthday and I graduated Cpl course and then we received such a generous gift from you. Thanks for your support and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

Mr. F,

Myself and all of the Marines in my division are grateful for the packages you sent. When the packages were opened it was like Christmas. It has been a while since the Marines had smiles on their face like on this day. I really appreciate your support.

Thank You
Sgt Avalos

Sir,
Thank you very much for the packages you sent. They definitely made our day a little brighter. It was nice to know that people back home are still thinking of us out here and we are not forgotten. Have a great day and god bless.

Mr. F,

I wanted to thank you and your friends for the care packages that we received. It means a lot to us when people take time to care about our welfare and morale. My Marines were excited, as I was, about all of the items sent. We do have a small store on our base, although between there and the cafeteria the selection of snacks is limited. Again, thank you for the snacks, movies, and magazines that reminded us of home, especially with the 4th of July coming up this weekend. Now I just have to run a little bit more to work off some of the snacks, but that is okay.

Thank You and God Bless,
Semper Fi

Just wanted to drop a quick line to say thank you for all the great stuff you sent out for the Marines. It was like Christmas in here when he started ripping open the boxes. I actually saw one Marine do the robot he was so happy. Semper Fi!

Thank you for the care packages,

They are much appreciated out here where we have few comforts.
People like you are hard to find.

Thanks again,
R/S

So it gets me thinking, I know that we did something like this as a club a few years ago.

Who's in for doing it again?

thank you for supporting the troops! it means a ton to all of us! although i haven't been in a combat zone before, im sure its going to happen all too soon.

I've sent some boxes of Mustang magazines over along with some ESPN. Hot Rod & hunting magazines. It cost me about $1 a magazine in shipping. Money well spent.
Now that I have a Sam's card maybe I'll send some snacks over with the magazines, ideas on what they like? I know chocolate melts in shipping, how about gum or trail mix?

Trail mix is a good one.
Jerky is a major one. I ate a lot of that over there.
I got chocolate from multiple packages and it didn't melt. Hell, Stinger1982 sent me dark chocolate reese's cups and they were perfect.
Gum should be good. If I was around the local kids that's what I'd give out, but also have some for myself.

I'm sure I could remember some other stuff. It's bed time. That's a good starter list though.

My brother in law used to love baby wipes since he couldn't always get to a shower, so he could at least feel a little clean. Also those USPS boxes that cost only like 5 or 10 bucks used to save a lot on shipping.
