My boss's girlfriend's son has a 96 Camaro SS, T56. The clutch just went out on it. It's 100% stock with just under 100k, & the kid actually doesn't beat on it (hard to believe but true). Anyways, it's at the shop,& my boss & I are going to do the clutch soon, I was wondering what would be a good one to get. Thanks Motown!!

Luk (04-134) or Valeo replacement (52802208 or DF pro 72802204(Dual Friction) series)
GM does not manufacture clutches. They sub contract the products from company's like Valeo.
You will find that many clutch manufactures actually only re box the clutch kits.
Read the fine print usually stamped or inked on the components (including the one you remove from the vehicle) its going to say Valeo.
My advise would just install a stock replacement, and resurface the flywheel. Inspect the starter ring gear while its out. It can be flipped over if its worn or chipped. If the slave cly in internal change it now.
More aggressive grabbing clutches only lead to internal transmission failures.
Pay attention clean & lube all contacting parts... (I prefer using a high temp synthetic grease). Make sure all clutch contacting surfaces are clean (brake parts cleaner works well)
Most kits will supply you with special lube for the clutch splines.... use it. They also will supply a new pilot bearing. Install it. Check the 1 peice rear main while your here.... easy to change at this time.... if needed clean up the back of the engine oil pan & if its seeping lay down a wide swath of silicone around the back of the pan.
Change the transmission fluid while its removed. When installing (stabbing) the transmission do not allow the weight of the transmission to hang on the input splines.... (easy to do if your not careful)
