Clay Bar

Wash (leave wet)
Clay
Wash (dry)
Polish
Wax

The purpose of clay is to pull contaminates out of the paint, so just think of it as another step in cleaning prior to polishing or waxing.

This is hilarious, I was JUST thinking about going out and doing this to my truck  Do you need to wax right after? Is it necessary or just a good idea since there is no protection on the clear coat.....I guess I just answered my own question

The first time you do it, wash your vehicle with 50/50 regular dawn dish soap and water, this will strip away any old polish/wax before you start the clay process :D

One more tip, clay in the shade if possible and be sure to use the clay bar lube or REGULAR car wash soap and water, makes the process a little easier.

soap/water tends to break down the clay a little quicker, but I've done it that way quite a few times without issue. You'll be amazed at how different the paint feels after using clay.

Yeah, mine feels like sand paper right now. :shake: I bought Mothers or Meguiars clay bar kit. I was going to clay it then have my buddy wheel it. I am just trying to figure out a DAY I want to spend working on my truck.

Enjoy it while you can, after two kids I haven't detailed my truck in two years

When I googled the answer I found a howto video on youtube and the video used quik detailer to make the car wet but thanks for the info I think your way would be easier

becareful with dish soap. unless it's a harder factory clear you will eat through your custom/aftermarket clear in 2-3 washes. very few waxes require that step any more and when you polish it removes your wax anyhow if the clay bar didn't get it.

meguiars had a thing over the summer that murrays sold 2 bars, detailer, cleaner wax and a micro fiber for $16. great deal.

One more note on using a clay bay make Sure you wash your car throughly If you leave one grain of dirt behind it can get caught in the clay bar and destroy a paint job!

I gotta re-clay my car. I too use Zaino. Great stuff! It's been 2 years and my car still looks great!
