They also do that on cars w/"Spray chrome", which is actually a silver nitrate deposit and heavy grade topcoat. I do that for plastic but you can do anything:

its vinyl, you can do it on anything, but a reflective chrome boat would blend into the water and youd probably be hit by another boat the first day out. Not to mention the suns reflection would both blind you and probably burn the shit out of you
