Chewed up wiring under hood. Any suggestions?

Yesterday morning my 2017 Chrysler 300 started running rough. I had instant flashbacks of all the issues I had with my previous one that Chrysler ended up buying back from me.

Took the car into the dealership and it turns out that something chewed through some wiring under the hood. So obviously the warranty doesn't cover this and its going to cost way more than I would like to spend to get this fixed.

Any ideas for what I could do from prevent this from happening again? Dealer said dryer sheets or moth balls...

This just happened to my '08 focus. Varmint chewed through #2 injector wire. I just fixed it myself. Anyway, I have used moth balls in the past and they seemed to work.

Do you park in a garage where there’s bird seed or any other type of food laying out? Had this issue with my moms Cruze but luckily nothing chewed on any wires, just a bunch of nests and shit. Took the bird seed out of the garage and no issues since.

insurance should cover it, if you want to go that route.......dryer sheets or mothballs, either should work

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about that. I might give my insurance company a call, but not sure if it will be worth it in the long run if it ends up causing a rate increase down the road.

Have them give you a quote first and decide if it is worth compared to your comprehensive deductible. I look at these from time to time and some are much worse than others depending on repair-ability and cost of the parts.

Thanks. The cost was only $100 more than my deductible so I had them fixed it. They just called that they finished.

Yeah, Toyota is under the gun for this one big time... using soy in the wires and it's causing all kinds of issues with rats/mice/etc.
