So i was reading some info on how these guys get almost free gas.
Some banks and CC came out with that program "keep the change" where they would round to the dollar.

So they were pumping like a few cents at a time for gas spending 15-20 minutes filling there gas tanks up and basically keeping the change. I'm not sure how the math really works but i guess there getting it like .10 cents a gallon? anyone here good at math?

from Bank of america site..

Saving is a whole lot simpler when you don’t have to think about it. That’s the idea behind Keep the Change. When you enroll, each time you buy something with your Bank of America Check Card, we’ll round up your purchase to the nearest dollar amount and transfer the difference from your checking account to your savings account. You get to keep the change – so every cup of coffee, gift, meal and tank of gas add up to more savings for you. What could be easier? if i don't have .94 cents

So they take 94 cents from my checking account and put it into a savings account? what f i don't have .94 cents? Do i then have a overdaft fee?

If something is 1.06 they move .94 of your own money. Do you actually think they're just going to hand money over...?

from reading it it does?

We’ll even match your savings(1)
We’ll match your Keep the Change savings for the first 3 months, to the penny. After that, we’ll continue matching 5% a year. The maximum total match is $250 per year.

(1) Keep the Change Matching Promotion

We match 100% of the amount of your Keep the Change transfers during the first three months after you enroll, and we will match 5% thereafter. The maximum total match is $250 per year. Limited to five checking accounts

So 5x250=$1250? or is it 250 for all 5 accounts?

How many banks and CC are doing it? you could rack up 250 pretty fast pumping 1.01 of gas at a time.
I'm just wondering? I know we have a few bankers here.

So you basically don't get the change? let say say if something is 1.06. I don't get the .06?

no, they would take .94 cents from your checking account and move it to your savings account, then you would fill it out in your register as a 2.00 purchase. Some banks will match the amount they transfer up to a certain dollar amount or a percentage of it.

That is the dumbest shit I've ever heard

Not really. Its a good way to save because most people think pennies a day isn't worth saving and any large amount is too hard/large to save cause you would rather spend it now.

This is a painless/un-noticable way to save, and pretty ingenious if you ask me.

Not the keep the change program, the fact that people think they are getting cheap gas when they are just paying more....
