what all is covered in the classes for CCW?

I would like to get one eventually(next year probably)

We went over all kinda of shit.. about the laws of usage, where you can and cant carry, whats the best type of concelment, what gun is best. Then took a short book test thing...

Then you get to go in the range.. You have to do group shootings on a target, fast load and 6 shot rapid, shoot from the hip, do a smilely face, we did some speed shooting too where we were timed and had to load, hit the noted post its, and reload and re hit the post its..this was at 10 yrds.. 3x3 post its i think there were 12 of them

I think my guy was jerry wrage or something like that. a bunch of us set it up and he came to one of our houses

i took it at Bass Pro Shop at great lakes crossing. It was a joke. Open book test, and you test yourself at the end of a 5 hour class. It was a waste of time. You learn nothing. Then came range time, you shoot a piece of paper at 20 feet. If you can hit it, you pass.

I heard it al depends on the instructor, my guy was cool and easy. I heard some classes are hard as fuck.

My class was like $120, bring your own gun and ammo.

I took my class at Firing Line in Westland and thought the class was well done. They actually followed a couple of NRA coursebooks, unlike the class that a buddy of mine took where the instructor spent most of the class telling the students how great he was. The rest of his class was spent trying to sell his products. He was pissed when we compared notes afterwards. In the end, you get the certificate to get the permit whichever class you take. What are your goals? To just get the permit or get the permit and actually learn something?

I took the class a couple years back and it followed a couple NRA videos and stuff. Paid $60. Never put in my packet for the permit...wonder if I have to take the class again.

There were some interesting things discussed in the class but it is mostly common sense.

renewal? PFFFFFTTTTT. you just have to sign that you have gone over the information again within a recent of a time period; and have done an hour of range time. Its on the honor system.

Everyone "thinking" about it should definitely do it. I got my Ohio CCW as soon as the law passed a couple years ago. From two days ago:

Man fatally shot at midday in Westlake Plaza

By Jonathan Martin
Seattle Times staff reporter

A man was fatally shot just before noon today at Westlake Plaza in Seattle's high-end downtown shopping district after assaulting a random pedestrian.

After a day of investigation, Seattle Police determined the shooting was a bizarre case of self-defense.

The shooter, described as a balding man in a black leather jacket, was arrested, questioned, then released by detectives. His name was withheld by police.

The deceased man, described by witnesses as a man in his early 20s wearing a yellow shirt, died of a gunshot wound to his abdomen after being taken to Harborview Medical Center. The King County Medical Examiner was trying to determine his name, but the man was not carrying any identifying information.

At about 11 a.m. on Saturday, Seattle police received a 911 call about a man in a yellow shirt acting erratically and "verbally harassing" passing pedestrians near Pike Street and Boren Avenue, said Seattle Police spokeswoman Deb Brown.

A half-hour later, the man apparently had moved on to Westlake Plaza, where he continued to scream at pedestrians, said Brown. One of his targets was the shooter, who had just finished lunch in the area.

The man in the yellow shirt attacked the shooter, punching and kicking him until the shooter pulled out a concealed weapon and fired a single shot. Witnesses said the shooter fired after being knocked down.

Afterward, the shooter sat down on a planter and handed his gun to police officers when they arrived. The man had a legal gun permit, said Brown.

The shooting, at 11:33 a.m., stunned shoppers who jammed the stone-paved streets of Seattle's retail core.

It will be up to King County prosecutors to determine whether the shooter faces charges. But after interviewing the man and several other witnesses, detectives decided to not book him into the King County Jail. "It could be considered a justifiable homicide," said Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel.

1 day, 8 hours. 5 hours class, 3 hours of range time.

Not true, it all depends on the class....mine was 9-3:30 including 45 minutes for lunch and an hour to an hour and a half for shooting.
