Carb or EFI

I recently aquired a 89 Notch. It runs great and has a built 302. I was thinking about changing to a carbed 351. What type of power difference is there between the two. What have you guys experienced, and I guess my biggest qustion is should I stay EFI or go carbed.

WFH8ZIT,

Try to be more specific in your information given. "built 302" and "Carbed 351", are gonna cut it. There are plenty of 302 based engines that can hand A LOT of 351 based engines their asses. A 351 based engine will ALWAYS have more POTENTIAL that a 302 based engine based on cubic inch potential, but if you don't do the neccessary steps in terms of component matching, etc., you could end up with a 351 thats a turd as well.

Do you have a displacement in mind for the 351?

What parts would you be buying for the 351 based engine (Heads, cam, crank, rods, pistons, intake, compression, etc.)?

What does the 302 have in it (Heads, cam, crank, rods, pistons, intake, compression, etc.)?

What kind of budget are you on (in school, working, parents are loaded, etc.)?

I guess what I'm looking for , and sorry for not being specific enough is pound for pound same mods done to the two different motrs, which one would you go with EFI or carbed.

depends if you wanna resell that car, i swithced mine to carb, and the value went down. luckily i left the wiring in .

Generally speaking, go with the 351W, put some stroke in it, and you'll be MUCH happier than if you had gone with a 302. Cubic inches in KING. Trust me I have been trying to keep up with windsors with my 347 and its not all that fun. It takes way too much of everything to keep up.

As far as going EFI or carb'd, it really depends on what you intend to do with the car. If this is a daily driven type street car, then keep the EFI. If you want a street/strip car to run as fast as possible at the track, get a carb. If you want the best of both worlds, spend some money and get BigStuff, FAST, etc..
