OK, I know i ask a lot of questions on this board but i need your help once again. I gave a little to much throttle in a 3rd gear trying to make it through a light. anyway, i could hear a backfire through the carb. Then the engine sputtered 3 times and quit. I coasted over to a side street and parked. Now i have spark and fuel up to the inlet of the fuel bowl but when i open the throttle blades with the linkage i get no fuel out of the jets. I dropped a small amount of fuel into the carb and she fired then quickly quit. It is a junk motorcraft carb that came with the car. Could this be an easy fix such as a bad diaphragm or? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I need to get her runnin so i can go to work on mon.

this is gonna sound really hillbilly.

Try tapping on the inlet area of the carb with a hammer. Lightly. Not like a jackass. If the needle got lodged into the seat it might shake it loose.

Lol, First thing i did was try tapping it lightly with a wrench. I then noticed the guy who's house i stopped in front of watching me bang on my carb with a wrench scratching my head. I felt like a hillbilly!

what did you figure out???

I found that my Fuel pump was producing very little pressure. so i grabbed an electric in-line pump i had and swapped it out. it was running fine until i shut it down and went to restart. I realized the jets in the carb were streaming fuel into the carb even though the fuel pump was off, flooding the carb with about 1in of fuel. There is a post about the issue in this section.
