Car Dealer Trouble Lien related

Long story short.
I purchased a 98 minivan in 2000 for my wife from a local Chevy dealers used car lot.
I had no trade, gave 5k cash down and financed the 8k balance through whoever the dealer set it up with.
I paid the car off early and received a release of lien from the finance co.
several years go by and I sell the car to my buddy who makes payments to me for about a year.
Once he pays it off I sign the title and he heads to the SOS.
Apparently GMAC still has a lien on the car.
What do I do?

PS
My wife called the dealer explained our problem and they asked us to come on in and they'd help us out with an 'upgrade'

You can call GMAC. They should be able to send you a letter showing a release of lien. Pretty simple stuff.

LOL damn you just cracked me up!
All's well that ends well, GMAC said they don't show any lien and they are faxing over a release of lien in a few.

I love that movie....

Who ever finishes first wins a Cadillac, second place wins a set of steak knives, third place gets fired.
