Calling all tires and Trans guys (Rich)

Needing 2 front matching BFG tires on my 4x4 Pathfinder (rear tires have 50% tread), i called my local tire shop and they said tires were discontinued... so I told him to price me out 2 Firestone Tires..... comes back with a $780! And says he can't replace just two tires.... all four need to be replaced with the same name brand tire or else the front differential will spin different from the rear differential (with the identical size tires) will cause a transmission blowout ... he'd only sell me the two tires if I walked in with the rim and tire myself.....
So i ask.....
Sales pitch bullshit or legitimate bullshit?

It’s legitimate, some time they even measure or tape the new ones to make sure there within a certain tolerance. Went through this on my exploder .

If you put both the rears on one side and the new ones on the left would it work? Sorry, just being an engineer. :nerd:

offset the psi to match the height of the worn tires. :D

Next time, call Gratiot Wheel and Tire in Roseville. They always have good used or take-off tires for a reasonable price. (586)776-1600

I have been leasing so much that I haven't bough tires in 10 years. I used to like Belle Tire but their refusal to patch tires that aren't poked exactly in the center tread and BS like that for me has got me looking for a new place. The Camaro tires are crappy Goodyear Run Flats and are only good for about 20k miles.

A friend of mine said that he got tires from McCormack for his Suburban, I think I might try them next time.

Belle by my house wont put the 2 tires on try Tirerack.com just gotta find an installer

Can confirm that Belle Tire will require 4 new, identical tires. I had a blowout of the right rear on I-275, towed it to BT, and said it's either all 4 or take it elsewhere. And was way more than $800.

Try SKY tire off Vandyke (like 17mi) been there a few times. And will patch, swap, what ever you want. He has and can get used tires too.

Tire dealers love AWD. I will only buy legit 4 whl drive, not full time AWD. With a "legit" 4 whl drive vehicle, 95% of the time you are just driving around in 2wd. Only time you use 4 wheel is when you are in a poor traction condition, then it doesn't matter if your tires are slightly different circumference, cuz you have slip.

Another reason to not use Belle Tire anymore. I think they are just so busy, that it is not worth their time to do a simple job anymore. Unless your getting four tires or a full brake job, they could care less.

I am still pissed that they wouldn't fix a nail hole in a tire on my 5th gen Camaro because it was in the outside row of treads. Not the sidewall or tread wrapping up to the sides, the row next to the sides. The guy was like "You know why we can't replace that right"? I said "Yea, because you make money selling tires not fixing them. I know when someone doesn't want my business anymore". I patched it myself from the outside with a $3 tire patch kit from Meijers and it lasted two years until I wore it down to the wear marks. Assholes.

BT & Discount are more so turning away carry-ins no matter the "situation". New or Used, doesn't matter. It's basically, if they cant sell you new, the brand you are bringing thru there doors they don't retail, or its from another competitor yet something they offer; chances are, you will have a reluctant sales rep. I've taken new tires bought from DTD into a b&m DT to have mounted & balanced that they wanted proof I bought them thru DTD... I pointed to the shipping label stuck on the tires & the guy stfu immediately. It takes a lot for me to give CS surveys a negative report, but that experience made it rather difficult to pull anything positive from.

I went to a brick & morter discount tire to price match discount tire direct on ebay. I was told that the tires on DTD on ebay were basically NOS and not technically "new" so they couldn't price match them. Total BS. Went to Bell Tire and they price matched DTD on ebay no problem. Later for different tires I bought tires on DTD on ebay and date code was 2 months old.

yeah local discount tire told me the same thing, that it was old stock on DTD ebay.

more and more Belle and Discount tire suck.
