Buying car out of state, bill of sale only.

Looking at a car which is out of state, seller says bill of sale only.
How do I do handle this in Michigan, and how much of a pain/additional costs is it to title here in Michigan?
It's an 87 if that makes a difference...
 
I bought an old car from Rhode island, no title, but I did get a registration, and I found a very formal bill of sale form that I emailed the seller to fill out. I had no problem getting a Michigan title at the SOS. I think the big thing is registration, even if it's expired. That might depend on the state where the car is coming from too.

Sorry for the stupid question but how do you know the car isn't stolen when you buy it? That is if registration isn't provided. Just re-read your post.
 
New york doesnt do titles for cars older than 25 years, hauled home a 71 dodge no issue getting a title , need the green form and a police inspection
 
My dad had to jump through hoops with his Belvedere, had to get it appraised and bonded insurance before sos would issue a title, police don't or wouldn't inspect his car in Warren or Eastpointe. His car as it sits was appraised at 600$

It's coming from Indiana.
I need to ask the owner if it has current registration then.
