Buying a salvage title car in Michigan

So I'm looking at a rolling chassis 01 Mustang GT. It has a salvage title. I live in Ohio, I'm building a motor for it. I do not have a receipt for the motor purchase. I've been told that I need one for inspections. I can't really pass the deal up with the chassis. What can I do now?

Do the research of why it got totaled.

Id rather score a 13 yr old car that got totaled 10 years into its life, than buy a 3 year old suburban that got $30k in repairs within 1000 miles of leaving the new car lot.

If the price is right and the history is believable. Look over the car good.

A salvage title is fine, a scrap title yer effed.

I'm not worried about the salvage title, I'm worried that I won't be able to get a title in Ohio because I don't have receipts for the motor. I have to be able to show receipts for everything that goes into the car.

I bought the motor from a junk yard, it was a core motor that needed rebuilt. It was a cash sale, no receipt

If Ohio Salvage inspections are anything like the MI inspections, then yes, you will need the receipt along with the VIN of the vehicle the engine came out of.

Engine block is stamped with last few of the VIN, so maybe the junkyard can provide you with a sales receipt of some kind ?

Well then the only other option I see is to swap in an engine that has some record (title or receipt with VIN) for the inspection, and get that over with. Then you'll be free to do whatever you want with it.
