buying a company car

I have an opportunity to buy one of the company's vehicles. It is not titled to an individual. It has the business name on the title. How would I go about purchasing this vehicle? The business owner is willing to fill out the proper paperwork and sign the title over. Where does he sign on the title and what forms need to be filled out? He said he usually leases our trucks or trades them in at the dealer and they do all the paperwork.

I know some of you guys on here buy municipal vehicles and might be able to help.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a truck titled to a business. The owner signed the title. The SOS never questioned it. I also bought a van from a church. The pastor signed the title. The SOS never questioned it either.

This has been my experience with municipal vehicles as well.

When I would sell a company car I would just sign as seller and put my job title next to the place you print as seller. Never had a problem.

So basically fill it out like usual? That sounded way too easy...lol

I am so thankful for this forum. If I would have asked on facebook I would have had endless conflicting info.

When I would buy a company car from someone I would get a copy of their tax license or DBA papers showing they own the company. But with this one, it sounds like you know they are the owner.

You don't need anything special. Just have owner sign title and put his title next to his name. They can look up the company owners if they are a registered Company. It is registered through your tax id.
