Bridge owns dozens of trucks

Truckers of the world! No matter how many times you try it, no matter how much you duck inside your cabin as get through it, no matter how strongly you believe the warning signs don't apply to you, your vehicle is never going to be able to survive an encounter with Durham's 11-foot 8-inch tall bridge.

This satisfying video is proof of it.

According to 11foot8.com, this train trestle is 100 years old, so it was built at a time" when there were no standards for minimum clearance." They are not raising it because the Norfolk Southern Railroad doesn't care: it's their bridge and the only thing they want is to guarantee the safety of their trains. "As far as they are concerned, they solved that problem by installing the crash beam," 11foot8 says. Any potential solution—like raising the bridge or lowering the road—is too expensive to be worth it.

The city of Durham installed warning sings along the three blocks that precede the bridge, but the imbeciles still keep ramming into it once every month on average. Oh well, thanks for the show, stupid! [11foot8 via Prochan via Roger Ebert]

Amazing! They should have a thing on the road before the trucks go under it that dings their roof or something, like the fast food drive thrus have.. Still probably wouldn't work though.. lol

...................@ a video in the pb....

.............:shake:.....@ the fools who don't heed the sign and lights.

They do. If you look close that was an I-Beam in front of the bridge to take the brunt of the abuse rather than the bridge metal.

And :shake: at the morons that don't know their vehicle height. Then again many of those look like rentals so a huge :banghead: for explaining the damage.

Love how the tops just peel off on some of those trucks.

The camper guy is funny too driving all slow as if that will make it squeeze under. Lol

bahahahaha great thread!! Shows how many morons there are in such a small area. Wonder how long till the camper dude realized he buzz cutted his a/c and sattelite?

know the bridge well. :) its about 50 feet from the entrance of durham bulls stadum. this happens about twice a month and yes usually rental trucks. Went to a game in july and sure enough there was a ryder truck wedged under the bridge and 2 guys cutting the roof off (to un wedge it)with cement saws :)

I'm not sure how people don't make a mental note of the height of whatever they are driving/towing. Every time I rent a big box truck, I know exactly how tall the truck is. I look at every bridge, low power line, etc. If I bought a camper, then I would for sure know how tall that thing was.

What a cool video though. LOL.

Agreed, hell, all the rental trucks I've ever used had the height noted in labels you could read in the mirrors, on the dash, etc.

I watched some dude with a camper do that at the local casino marquee last month. Heard a crunch and the employees came running saying: "again?" LOLZ.

I give credit to the renters. I've rented and never once worried about that--incorrectly it seems....
