Brakes

Lately i have been having brake issues. When i press the brake pedal, it hisses and it feels like manual brakes, but they still work.

What could be the problem?

Sounds like a leak in the brake booster or a bad check valve for the booster.

yup, same thing happened to my old beater

Hopefully its not a tough one, some of these newer vehicles they pack them boosters way in there

I figured it was a brake booster, but im sure the job shouldnt be to hard. it sits in the open and its an 86'.

borrow a good vaccum pump and test it for leaks.

Remove the check valve for the booster stick the tester into the vacum port on the booster and pump it down to vaccum and see if it holds vaccum. If not the diapgrah is bad.

Given the description of the problem it sure sounds like a bad diagphram buts its always better to test then geuss.

how do i remove the booster? i took off the fluid resivior and pulled off the vacuum plug/hose thing. whats next?

Under the dash (connected to the brake peddle) you should have 4 bolts...Unbolt all 4 at the firewall and disconnect the lever.
