Bookshelf stereo recommendations

I'm looking for a decent quality sound bookshelf system. I know that may be a bit of an oxymoron, but I'm not really looking to build a multi-component home audio setup. I'm looking for good bang for the buck.

The main requirements: Decent sound as already mentioned, but also the ability to play multi CDs and/or an easy interface to access a relatively large MP3 catalog. Figure over 300 CDs worth of music.

Any interface has to be dead nuts simple and easy to set up, this is primarily for my wife. Building a component system or buying X tablet to work with y app, that requires a bunch of fucking around is not something I'm incredibly interested in, unless you can convince me of such.

Oh, and some level of Home Theater / Smart TV interface would be a bonus.

With that said, thoughts?

I own those speakers and haven't been tempted to look at anything else since I bought them. That's a lot coming from me lol. You should be able to find a deal on them this time of year, I paid $100 for my pair at this time last year. Normal price is typically $150 each.

Ok, that works with her Spotify app and my Pandora. Is there some sort of hub to interface with a CD changer? What about a ton of music on a 1TB USB drive?

Any standard preamp will work for using a CD changer. If you're planning on playing music from a hard drive, you would just run a cable from your computer to the preamp. A preamp with 3 inputs would suit you well, one for a CD changer, one for the Bluetooth receiver, and one for a computer.

What about this. Assume powered speakers/monitors.

Tablet for interface - audio output is connected via hardwire or bluetooth/NFC connection

1) Run a streaming app (Pandora/Spotify etc)off the tablet through the Preamp (probably hardwire, or with the bluetooth adapter noted above.
2) access USB drive through a USB hub, or hardwire from USB drive to tablet with USB-micro USB wire.
3) Connect CD changer through pre-amp
4) connect audio from Smart TV to pre-amp for light home theater use


I'm searching for 3 channel input pre-amp, and finding all kinds of goofy stuff. Thoughts on search criteria?

You can also use a home theater receiver as long as it has preouts on it. Quite a few have preouts for the front L and R channels, and some have them for all channels. That way it works as a preamp and the amplifier section is bypassed.

Ya, the 1990's Sony Bookshelf system is on its last legs. I think 1 speaker still works, the digital display is shot, and the tape deck has been dead for years.

That would be a good route to take as well. There a lot of nice bang for the buck speakers that will work well with it. The Elac Debut B6 would be a good match.

Ok, honing in on a solution. Would the Elac's be somewhat saleable, I.e. easy to add 2 rear channels and a sub?

Mine's been in constant use since summer of '95. I added a Bluetooth receiver to stream from my phone when I'm working in the garage.
