Boiling a New Harmonic Balancer

the HB on my 96 jeep cherokee went bad and i bought a new on from autozone it turned out it wouldnt fit so i went and bought a pioneer brand one from advanced autoparts. using the installer i can get the HB on about half way before it dont want to move anymore.:confused:

i read somewere that boiling the HB would help open the hole up and would go on easier anyone ever do this to a HB to get it to fit?

or is there anything else i can do to get it to go on all the way?

yes you can boil it.i used a propane torch on my rattler,it should need just a little heat,but boiling it does work
 
so i can just use a propane torch to heat up the part of the balancer that slips onto the crankshaft(baremetal part in pic)?

the balancers half way on right now can i just heat it up while its on or do i have to take it back off to do it?

I personally would take it to a machine shop and have them take out .02-.03 thousandth's off the inside. I tried boiling mine and it didnt work. Cost me $20 at a local shop a few years ago.
 
Heating the center up won't hurt anything. The rubber is pretty far away to be affected. I don't think that boiling it gets it hot enough.

Use some sandcloth on the crank snout and get it cleaned up. You might have a burr or something holding you up. And if you have to heat it up to get it on, it will probably be a pain in the ass to get it off again later.
 
I used to put them in the over on the lowest temp for about ten to twenty mintues..

Do the emrycloth thing too clean out the inside and the crank.. do onot put it on dry get soem dielectric grease or something and smear it around alil on the crank snout.

I hope your using a installer too and not a impact and the bolt cuz you'll trash the crank threads in a hurry.
 
i was using a installer then after it was halfway on i just used the bolt, went in no problem with the bolt. the installer was bending because i had a wrench on it wedged in my bumper and i had a cresent wrench on the nut to put it on and half way on it wasnt doing anything.

so the jobs done
