Major differences between the 4l60e & 2004r. They both can handle 500 ft lbs of torque without billet shafts or speciality parts, but a 200r4 uses a governor for up shifts, 4l60/80e use a computer, unless you use a manual valve body, which I would not recommend for either, especially for a dd or 99% street usage. Using a 2004r trans, and obtaining the proper rpm for wot shifts automatically is virtually unattainable. Using a 4l60/80e with a computer the up shifts/downshifts/lockup speed/throttle sensitivity/shift firmness is all adjustable and takes seconds to adjust (depending on the controller you use).
Hands down, the 4l80e is way stronger(but you already know that.) and its available with a trans brake.
I would not worry so much about the extra 40 lbs of a 4l80e, but making modifications to the tunnel may be a issue.
