Battery powered and dimmable rope lights?

Trying to help my kids team with a play they are doing. The idea we had to install a dimmer switch to control them isn't doing what we need.

Anyone seen this before?
 
Best cheapest way is to pick up rope lighting that has programmable colors. But instead of a variety of colors, look for multi shades of same color spectrum.
 
I use the 12v led strip and the controller boxes have a dimming control on them. The strip come in 5m lengths.
