Balancer Keyways

I'm going to be running a big boost vortech setup so I want to run dual keyways on the crankshaft. I got the second keyway cut on the crank snout by Moldex no problem.

I was going to use a motorsport balancer but it only has 1 keyway. Does anyone know where I can get a 2nd keyway cut in it?

Or is this just the worst idea ever and I should just sell it + buy an ATI/Innovators West that comes with dual keyways?

I'm hoping that I can get the balancer cut because I already had it touch honed for my crankshaft and had the balance checked on it. So aside from the 2nd keyway, it's ready to go.

Any input would be appreciated.

Well I am not sure what sort of engine you are building but if anything than a 351C build than.........

Instead of messing with dual keyways and having to find a dual keyway damper. Just have your crank machined (drilled/tapped) for a 351C damper bolt. It is a 5/8x18 fastener that is available from ARP. The 351C ARP fastener tightens to 195-200 ft/lbs......huge difference over other bolts. The additional clamp load reduces the likelihood of shearing a woodruff key and banging your valves against the pistons.

I'm building a 302 based 347 stroker with an eagle forged crankshaft.

I've already got the 2nd keyway cut in the crank so now it's just a matter of whether I can get my current balancer cut to line up or sell it and buy a new one...

I like the 351C bolt idea but I'm not sure if there's enough meat in the crank snout to do that.

Just checked ARP, the only difference between the windsors and the 351C bolts is the under head length.

They both use the same 5/8-18 thread.

Oops I missed the parts about you already having the second keyway cut. And good info about the C and W bolts being the same. I just know the 5/8 x 18 bolt can be torqued down significantly tighter than most others. Good luck.

dont forget by putting a 2nd keyway in your balancer it will chage to weight so you'll have to add weight to it somewhere else. but any shop with a broach can do it for you. if you know someone with a roll forming company they usually have broach machines.
