bad gas?

drove the vette tonight for the first time in 8 months... fired up first try. idled for 30 min.

drove a few miles, had to get gas as i was less then a 1/4 tank.. but i think i screwed my self because i was in a hurry and was next to a station in the hood (7 greenfield), put about 6 gallons of 93 in it.. never turning off the car.

pull out on 7 mile to telegraph. turn and start heading to 696. i take off from a light a little fast and car just turns off when i let off the pedal at say 40. push clutch in and turn key back on. fires then turns back off..

i rolled into a parking lot and turned it back on. it fired right up went to idle then died. fired it back up and pushed the pedal and nothing at all went to idle and died.. repeated that step about 20 times.. pushing the pedal did nothing other then a quick little rev then died.

Did i fill up with trash gas? i'm going tomorrow with a trailer to get it. Anyone have any ideas?? no codes.

ya might not have to worry about unplugging that maf being deadlined over on that side of town lol

right, but where it got left seemed "safe" commercial building with camera's all around. not open on weekends. i left a note under the wipers with my number but being its going to be there 12hrs im not THAT worried.. plus insurance is paid.

What year car? Filling with it running wont hurt anything except it may throw off the anti-slosh module for the fuel level, nothing to worry about.
More importantly, you should never leave a car for 8months without a completely full tank.

Weird you say this. I filled my Lincoln and within a few miles of driving. It started missing like it was running out of fuel. Never had any problem like this before with the car. I was over in Taylor getting gas though.

2000 and didn't plan on it.. got left at a buddys to have some body stuff done.. and he never got to it, and i never cared enough till now to go get the car.

In that case I'd agree it sounds like a bad maf, trybtappingit with the handle of a screwdriver, or unplug it and see how it is. Bad gas would likely allow it to run and drive but it would run poorly, starting requires better gas than running so I doubt its the fuel quality that's at fault.
This could also be a bad throttle body, a 2000 would be drive by wire, so you could try watching the plate go through its sweep while someone actuated the pedal in the car.

What about a bad fuel filter, car sat for awhile with almost no gas, could of sucked up some crap that settled over time.

Plus you filled up on premium I assume at a station that most likely never sells premium if its in the hood. You never know what came out of that vault.

well after draining out the gas by jumping the fuel pump relay, and using a hose off the fuel rail and finding a good amount of water in there 5 to 10% when i filled up a pop bottle. drained the tanks out but noticed.. it really wasnt pushing at all maybe shooting out the hose that was less then 2 ft like an inch.. and just going slow.. im thinking when its off it can build enough pressure to start. but once it starts it cant keep up.. the working theory right now is the water scored the crap outta the pump and it wont make enough pressure to run more then 5 to 10 secs at idle even with new fresh gas..

got a buddy to come out with a trailer and when he gets time to work on it going to hook a gauge up just to make sure then change the pump. cause its a stock pump with the boosta pump thing or something like that to up the voltage so we think it should of shot the fuel far outta the small hose we used..

and yes maf unplugged did nothing at all.

did use a lil starter fluid to make it idle for a min. but as soon as u stopped misting it infront of the air filter it would die.

That's fudged. I went to a 711 gas station I'm about to drain my fuel as well and see what I get.

My brother got bad diesel fuel a couple weeks ago and was able to claim the repairs on his auto insurance. Otherwise he was looking at a 2g bill.
