Ok my almost 3 year old has figured out every lock in the house in the last 2-3 days. While this is midly amusing in some ways it is also extremly terrifying as he made a break for it today while mom was out in the shed getting some things. He unlocked the front door and took off running. fortunately as luck would have it mom was comming in the back porch door as the little man was going out the front door. Needless to say Mom is a bit tweaked and wants some type of door alarm system.

What have you guys used ?

I doubt even putting a chain on the door would help. He can move pretty much every chair in the house and is a good climber.

How about a ring & hook placed in a high location?

That could work. Do they make anything that doesn't require drilling ? Have to look into those and see if they have self adhesive door catchs. Oak doors with maple door trim and its a rental so I can't go doing to much stuff.

If the doorknobs are round they make little covers that fit over the knobs and let them spin unless you push 2 tabs in at the same time. Shoot over to Baby's-R-Us and they have a whole section on shit like that.

Yeah he figured those out about a month ago. Uses both hands. We have them on the bathroom doors. No dice.

LOL...dog shock fence colar :)

Do you have a screen door? might be easier than messing with a wood door. you could always try to used some 3m double sided to put a latch on there.

GL...all my kids do is tell me ...." no Dad..." :)

Does your door have a deadbolt? They sell deadbolt's that have a key on both sides so he would need the key to unlock that one. It just sucks during summer if you like to have your door open then you still have to worry about the screen door. Plus if you had to make a quick escape you need to have your keys. The do make audible alarms that just stick to the door and molding the will sound if the door is opened. That way you will at least know when he is trying to escape and stop him but those will go off every time the door is opened unless you shut it off. Then you need to make sure it's on when you need it...damn kids.

I hand't thought about the double key dead bolt. that could fiarly well. easy to do and I can put the original back on when we move out or he gets a bit older.

Good idea. Have on on the front door to the shop. LOL.

gonna check into the latch with tape. He figured out the screen door lock to. Kid is a magician with locks.I also come to find out grandma was out in the garage and the baby locked the garage to house door trapping grandma in the garage. I gotta say this is mildly amusing. He definatley had a escape plan.

He locked both of them Mom and Grandma in the garage this morning. Good thing I was still home to let them back in. At first she though it was a accident or something with him locking the garage door. I told her he knew how to do it. After she came back in he came up and locked the door and mummbled something.

I have no idea what thats about but I was luaghing my ass off.
