Getting ready to purchase the Canon XSi from them and want to get there service plan. Has anyone used there service plans and were there any trouble with it. I'm looking at the 5 year on for $200. Thanks for any information.

In general, service plans are a very poor investment. They are huge money makers for the stores, that is why they offer them.

That said, B&H is very popular with online photographic equipment purchases :D

In 4 years you could probably buy the same camera used for that price. I've taken ~12k shots on my XT and only cleaned the sensor 1 time (did that myself). Now I've moved on to another camera. Odds are you'll want to upgrade before 5 years, and you could use that 200 somewhere else and get a better result.

After owning a bunch of cameras, I get it on them all the time. I'm not a fan of service plans in general, but if you use the camera a lot, it becomes great. I had my XTi for almost 3 years before I dropped it and cracked the housing, I had to replace it with an XSi. I had that XSi for about 3 months with the service plan and dropped it again, it was replaced for free, so I got my moneys worth a few times over.

Now I am shooting on much more expensive equipment, I have insurance on everything. I don't plan on upgrading the camera anytime soon because the body alone was almost $3k.

That said, I would say the value of the insurance is proportionate to use. Cameras don't evolve tech wise that much. That camera will be good for years and years unless you find yourself needing more pixels. The more you use it, the more you will want insurance. Also, I highly suggest getting the battery grip and hand strap for it. That was the life saver for me, plus the two batteries make it last a while.

I'm going to go ahead and get the plan. That was never an issue. People can say I'm wasting my money, but it's my to waste. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had to send a camera back to them for service and if there were any issues.
