Australia's "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin dies

DRKCYDE

To Punish and Enslave
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Steve Irwin, the quirky Australian naturalist who won worldwide acclaim, has died in a marine accident off Australia's northeast coast, local media reported on Monday.

Queensland state government sources quoted by Australian Associated Press (AAP) said Irwin, 44, whose television show "The Crocodile Hunter" won international acclaim and popularized the phrase "Crikey," was believed to have been killed by a stingray barb that pierced his chest.

He was filming an underwater documentary off Port Douglas when the accident occurred, the report said.

Sky Television also reported that Irwin had been stung by a sting ray.

Australian emergency officials could not immediately confirm the reports.

Irwin won a global following for his daredevil antics but also triggered outrage in 2004 by holding his then one-month-old baby while feeding a snapping crocodile at his Australian zoo.

Man, that sucks. That guy was hilarious.

That sucks. I enjoyed watching his shows. He seemed like a pretty cool guy. I feel bad for his family.

Well, I hate to speak ill of the newly dead, and far be it for me to be an asshole, but I can't exactly say I'm sorry to hear this.

I mean seriously. A man who handled poisonous snakes, wrestled crocks, etc died from tempting fate one too many times..

I don't see this as a tragedy, but more as an affirmation that there -was- great risk in what he did.

Damn that guy was so cool! I used to watch his original show back in the early 90's on animal planet. He was hilarious on jay leno too. I'm sure Jay will do something for him.

Out of all the deadly predators he has come face to face with, he gets killed by a Stingray? What a freakish accident.

That really is too bad to hear about, i really like watcing his show. I feel bad for his family and he will be missed. However, he was probibally fucking with that animal (as he usually does) and it was coming sooner or later. As was already stated, you can only spite fate so many times.

RIP

damn... sorry to hear that.

This guy had balls the size of bowling balls. NO WAY I'd drag a croc around by the tail.

Why does this not suprise me. Sometimes I think you are a dick just to stir up trouble.
Do you say to people a lot, "Don't take offense to this, but..."?
