Argh.. I hate selling stuff on Craigslist.

I know it's my own fault for listing stuff on CL but it gets so much exposure. I listed a Bolens Garden Tractor for sale and I get at least 2-3 emails a day with way low ball offers. Come on, they haven't even checked it out and the want something that is listed at $1000 for $500, $600, $300 and there broken mower (Which they always say is a simple cheap fix. Ya, if it is so simple and cheap to fix why are they not fixing it?)

Hows this one. I got asked it I could load it all up and bring it to Romulus for the guy to check out because his car was wrecked and he can't get a hold of anyone to get a ride to Dearborn Heights to check it out. WTF it's a 700+lb garden tractor, 42" mower deck, 33" rototiller, 36" Snowblower and 42" front blade.

Sorry.... I just needed to vent.

I made the mistake a while back of putting my cell number in an add, I was getting calls till like midnight....and low balling gets a bit silly somtimes...asking $2000 for a car, will you take $700. Very frustrating.

I have a seperate email for cl... the key is, just treat people like they treat you. If they call you at midnight, call them back the next night at 2 and tell them you will think about it. If people lowball you, ask if you can remove the engine. If people are mean, be a dick back.

I put my girls turbo jetta on cl for 6200, kbb was likw 6600 before mods and stuff. I had a guy call me and told me he would come give me $3200 for it. I said "man it sucks that you are poor, maybe look for a cheaper car" I had a guy drive from indy and give me 5800. The kid called again a week later to offer me the 3200 again..... I just told him off and told him it got sold for 5800.

yeah i hate selling stuff on craigslist. most the time when people low ball me i dont even respond or just basically say fuck off

i get lucky i guess because i list on ann arbor craigs instead of detroit and I hardly get non sense from potential buyers

I like your thinking. Most people say to just ignore it but by that point I'm already pissed off. I think I'm gonna do stuff like you mentioned.

Email is a great filter, but then there is the guys that are not very up front on the condition of their stuff. For instance, I just met up with a guy to get some 20" Torque Thrusts for my truck. Said they were in great shape. Lucky for me, I didn't go all the way to Flint to see them...

Out of total curiosity, I did check out what I think is your ad (there is only one Bolens tractor with a bunch of implements for $1000 in D. Hghts strangely).. That's a nice tractor, I can see why it's probably overkill in your neck of the woods. There are some tractor forums out there where you might have some better luck. try tractor by net. They have sub forums for every make of garden tractor out there. The guys that are into them know what the value is.

I always get a simple email like is it still available? Then I find out it is a spammer or some third party scammer from Nigeria. Sure send me a bogus check for 10k more and I will send you the change.

It's got a blade and snow blower on it? Post up some pics or details please?

It's for sale HERE
It has the front blade and snowblower and mowing deck and a rototiller (Bad ass rototiller)

I checked on some of the forums and basically was told it was worth about $1,200 give or take depending on location. I started at $1,200 and had a bunch of emails (Low balls) and then droped to $1,100. Still more low balls. Now it's at $1,000 which I think is drawing even more low ball offers. Bottom dollar to a MM member is $900

900 is a hell of a deal on an old quality tractor with those attatchments. If i had a use for all that I would scoop it up

Kind of off subject but my buddy had his ws6 on CL for 7500, guy asked if he wanted to trade for a "cavalier w/rims." My buddy responded, "sure, if its an autobot that can transform into 75 $100 bills." I lol'd

Paying the price of a free service....

I simply price my items well. I never say “firm”,
but that is what the price is. If they ask on the phone
or email about the price, I remind them the price is $XX,xxx.

If they ask about the price when they are here looking at it,
I again remind them of what a great value I’m offering & mine
is a great deal that is very hard to beat…..and “if you don’t like
my price, then feel free to continue your shopping.”

I rarely have a customer walkout on me without purchasing. It seems
sometimes folks have to step back & take a deep breath. Try not to
take some of these “nut case” customers to personally. I know it’s
hard not to – I have to deal with them too. But at the end of the day,
it is more than worth it to be able to use a great free service (craigslist)
and get great results!

If not, then pay me a sales commission & I’ll sell it for you!
